2009 General Assembly and publication of the 2008 Activity Report
Published in:
general -
The AFNIC annual General Assembly took place on 11 June 2009.
Amongst other things, it was the occasion for presenting the annual Activity Report for the previous year.
2008 was a year marked by significant growth for AFNIC: with more than 480,000 new domain names in 2008, activity has increased by nearly 33%.
The report also covers the highlights of 2008, including:
- on the technical front, the work carried out in preparation for the implementation of the EPP registration protocol and reinforced security;
- on the legal side, the framing of conditions for access to the list of domains and the launch of measures to combat obvious breaches of the decree of 6 February 2007;
- on the R&D front, involvement in ambitious projects such as the Internet of Things;
- on the marketing front, pushing forward research, such as the for French domain name industry Report and trend analysis (this latter showing that the .fr domain name is increasingly the gold-standard for communicating in French to the French);
- and, finally, on the communications and international-exchange front, continuing to develop partnerships, and participation in and increased support for international meetings - in particular the hosting of the ICANN Paris event in June 2008.
