The AFNIC published its response to the public consultation on the management of the French Internet domains

On April 28th, 2008, the public authorities started a public consultation about the management of French Internet domains: .fr, .re, .gp, .mq, etc.
The AFNIC today published the response which it submitted to the authorities.

This response was designed with the ambition of bringing elements of analysis on the current situation and to emphasise the report on the action carried out over 10 years. As candidate in the role of registration office (registry), the AFNIC also formulates recommendations for editing the future call for candidatures.

Among the key points of the consultation, the AFNIC paid particular attention to:

• the eligibility criteria for the .fr (questions 5 and 6);
• the opportunity to designate a shared registry for all French Internet domains (question 9);
• within the statute of the framework designated as a registration office which should have a non-profit making goal (question 17a);
• in place of the authorities in the framework (question 18d);
• and finally possible accreditation modalities of the registrars (question 20).

The authorities have at present collected all of the responses and are going to carry out a summary that will be used to draw up the call for candidatures which should be launched shortly.
